Four more companies of dismounted troopers of the US 7th Cavalry. Again they are a mixture of re-scaled Airfix; Revell and some new Esci conversions.
The Esci figure (left) is the standing Confederate with kepi. The usual treatment followed: trimmed trousers for it to look like boots; new pinned head and shortened rifle in order to look like Springfield carbines. A mixture of shirts, shell jackets and sack coats can be seen.
Several of the figures had the ugly blue shirt with a plastron which made them look like Country music singers. The whole group is without gloves which is more appropriate for dismounted fight.
The fanion holder is the cowboy firing the pistol with the left hand pressing frenetically the hammer spur. The left arm was changed in order to hold the fanion.

Hi, this is an interesting project as I am painting the figures for the same campaign/battle also in 20mm scale! In my case it's commission work and all figures are in metal including many specially commissioned sculpts and I have been working on it for just over a year now alongside other projects.
ReplyDeleteThe entire commission is for 450 mounted Indians, 150 Indians on foot, 6 troops of US cavalry mounted each of 20 figures, 60 US cavalry dismounted plus horses and holders etc, and around 60 odd misc. civilians, scouts etc. I'm only a month or so away from completing it!
I will pass your blog link onto my customer/friend Mark Lodge as I know he will be really interested in seeing what you are doing here :) I'll also mention your project on my own blog. Love those teppees, I'm sure Mark will too.
Photo of some of Marks Indians below, all individually based and with name labels on the bottom.

All the best,
Lee.
I´ve just checked the Indians and they are a dream! Congratulations! Can you send me your blog so I can follow and check more?
ReplyDeleteThank you :) My blog link is below for you, a search for 'Indians' or US Cavalry should bring some related posts up as I have not added labels. I have just added some images of the dismounted 7th cavalry sculpts that have newly arrived.
DeleteCheers,
Lee.

DeleteMore beaut figures. Did you paint the fanions too? They stripes and so straight and stars look perfect!
ReplyDeleteI had a big chuckle at your 'looked like a country music singer' comment as I know the figure that you were referring too!

(Lee's blog is excellent isn't it? He paints beautifully at many scales.)
