Rapid Fire! Normandy 1944 in 20mm - Allied aircraft

This is June so lets celebrate D-Day and  the Normandy campaign with some Allied aircraft built along many years. There are still some models missing like British bombers, late Spitfires and P-51 B/C models.
Starting with the British the first picture is my sole Beaufighter, a nice Die-cast model from Altaya.

Next four Typhoons. The closer one is a Die-cast from Altaya and the others are Airfix. In reality the ones from Airfix are the later Tempest with a laminar flow wing as the main difference something hard to see in this scale. After a few cuts here and there they became closer to the intended ground attack Typhoon.

Now for the USAAF. E2D is a Maisto Die-cast, all others are Revell.

A P-47M Thunderbolt from Revell.

A P-47D Thunderbolt "Razorback" Die-cast from Altaya.

"Hard to get" is  B-26 Marauder from Revell.

  1. The razorback is from the 56th fighter group which was based near my home town in Essex. It converted to air.sea rescue at some point, don't know when

    1. Thanks for the info. It makes you closer to your models.

  2. Lovely models, and all crisply painted. Do you have a favourite between die-cast and kit-built (besides the fact that the die-cast don't need building!)

    1. Thanks. Frankly die casts. But the kind of quick builds from PSC and alikes ranks number 1.

  3. A nice selection of aircraft. I also like the die-cast models and use 1/100 scales planes in my Rapid Fire games. I think a slightly smaller aircraft look just right flying above 20mm figures. Cheers Greg (Delta Coy)

  4. Absolutely right. I'm fortunate to have a large table and some space and have started 1/72 planes much before RF! existed. So I try to keep everything 20mm.
